Distinguished and Famous people from Freycinet Peninsula
Nicolas Baudin and the Freycinet brothers
The names around Freycinet preserve part of the French scientific expedition led by Nicolas Baudin in 1802. Its charting work helped identify coastal features, and the peninsula was named for the Freycinet brothers serving on the expedition. Members of the party also landed overnight on Schouten Island. These are navigational associations within a landscape with a much longer Aboriginal history. The names are one surviving record of that charting expedition.
